Ingen kan forberede dig p\u00e5 den dag, hvor du f\u00e5r det telefonopkald, der fort\u00e6ller, at din mor er d\u00f8d. Det var mandag den 15. juni, og jeg havde lige v\u00e6ret ude at l\u00f8be og sv\u00f8mme i havet og sad p\u00e5 min yndlingscaf\u00e9 og skulle i gang med noget arbejde. Jeg ringede til hende den morgen, da vi talte sammen hver dag, og hun sagde, at hun lige havde lavet kaffe og var ved at s\u00e6tte sig sammen med sin veninde, som var p\u00e5 bes\u00f8g. Hun sagde, at hun ville ringe tilbage om en time. Jeg vidste ikke, at jeg ville f\u00e5 et opkald fra min far 30 minutter senere. Han bad mig om at s\u00e6tte mig ned. Jeg kan stadig h\u00f8re hans stemme gentage ordene gennem mit skrigende sind: “Din mor er lige g\u00e5et bort”, og samtidig r\u00e5ber min indre stemme: NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I samme \u00f8jeblik, jeg fik den fatale nyhed, kunne jeg m\u00e6rke, at navlestrengen mellem min mor og mig blev sk\u00e5ret over. Hvordan kunne dette v\u00e6re virkeligt? Jeg havde troet, at det ville v\u00e6re nyheden om, at min 94-\u00e5rige mormor var d\u00f8d, for det var noget, jeg havde forberedt mig p\u00e5 i betragtning af hendes alder og helbred. Men det var min mor, der blev taget fra os alle p\u00e5 et splitsekund, som et lyn fra en klar himmel. Hun havde ikke set det komme; det havde ingen af os. Jeg ved, at jeg aldrig bliver den samme igen. Noget er fundamentalt forandret. <\/p>\n

Som rumskaber i mit professionelle arbejde og som mor har det, der er sket, skabt en ny, dyb forst\u00e5else af begrebet tab. Jeg f\u00f8ler, at mine sanser har \u00e5bnet sig p\u00e5 en m\u00e5de, jeg aldrig har oplevet f\u00f8r. Sorgen er stormet ind i alle mine hjertekamre, og det, der f\u00f8les som en uendelig tomhed, ligger nu i min cellehukommelse. De s\u00e6dvanlige ting, der sker, n\u00e5r nogen t\u00e6t p\u00e5 g\u00e5r bort, er at kunne v\u00e6re der personligt for dem, man elsker, have en begravelse, v\u00e6re til stede ved en kremering og alle de ritualer, vi har, der hj\u00e6lper os med at finde en afslutning. Men i min korte erfaring med at miste min mor er jeg kommet til at forst\u00e5, at der aldrig er nogen afslutning, men at man kun kan klare sig hver dag, fra \u00f8jeblik til \u00f8jeblik. Fordi min s\u00f8ster og jeg begge bor i Danmark, og verden er i den situation, den er lige nu p\u00e5 grund af coronapandemien, m\u00e5tte vi udholde tre uger med det mest meningsl\u00f8se covid-bureaukrati, bare for at kunne rejse hjem, uden nogen garanti for, at vi overhovedet kunne v\u00e6re hjemme hos min far p\u00e5 grund af strenge karant\u00e6neprocedurer. <\/p>\n

Vi forlod et fredeligt K\u00f8benhavn og landede i Cape Town midt om natten, hvor vi blev k\u00f8rt i bus til en statslig karant\u00e6nefacilitet. Oplevelsen var kortvarig, da vi n\u00e6gtede at give afkald p\u00e5 vores rettigheder til en to ugers periode i noget, der f\u00f8ltes som et f\u00e6ngsel. En medarbejder fra sundhedsafdelingen ankom n\u00e6ste dag og gav os lov til at f\u00e5 dispensation til at isolere os i vores families hjem. Hans pr\u00e6cise ord var: “Vi har m\u00e5ske en pandemi, men vi m\u00e5 ikke miste vores menneskelighed”. De tre uger tilbage i Sydafrika var en bitters\u00f8d blanding af dyb sorg, gl\u00e6de, latter og t\u00e5rer. Midt i sorgen over vores mor var det meget konfronterende at st\u00e5 ansigt til ansigt med den daglige virkelighed om, hvordan covid-protokollerne har omformet Sydafrika. Vi var ikke i stand til at holde en mindeh\u00f8jtidelighed p\u00e5 den m\u00e5de, der bedst ville have levet op til hendes arv. Det lykkedes os at skabe en intim undergrundsfest derhjemme for at mindes hende. Jeg f\u00f8ler en stor uretf\u00e6rdighed i forhold til, hvordan Sydafrika har h\u00e5ndteret nedlukningen i coronavirussens navn. Den massive pandemi af sult, selvmord, psykiske problemer og vold i hjemmet er alt sammen et resultat af nedlukningen. Det ser ikke ud til at h\u00e6nge sammen i mine b\u00f8ger. Jeg vil aldrig kunne bevise det, men jeg ved, at nedlukningen var en st\u00e6rkt medvirkende faktor til min mors d\u00f8d i en alder af 68 \u00e5r. Den to m\u00e5neder lange drakoniske nedlukning p\u00e5virkede hendes naturlige velbefindende og sociale interaktion. At hun ikke var i stand til at motionere og havde h\u00f8jt blodtryk p\u00e5 grund af de stressende forhold, jeg blev p\u00e5lagt, kom til udtryk i vores daglige samtaler, der f\u00f8rte til hendes d\u00f8d. For at g\u00f8re situationen endnu mere presset har jeg en s\u00f8ster med Downs syndrom, som bor p\u00e5 et hjem for mennesker med s\u00e6rlige behov. Hun fik ikke lov til at komme ud til begravelsen, og vi har ikke kunnet se hende i l\u00f8bet af vores tid i Sydafrika p\u00e5 grund af de ekstreme foranstaltninger, der er blevet indf\u00f8rt. Det f\u00f8les som s\u00e5dan et skridt v\u00e6k fra vores egen menneskelighed, k\u00e6rlighed, familie og samv\u00e6r. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Sorg er en lovprisning af dem, vi har mistet … Ikke at s\u00f8rge er en vold mod det guddommelige og vores egne hjerter og is\u00e6r mod de d\u00f8de. Hvis vi ikke s\u00f8rger over det, vi savner, lovpriser vi ikke det liv, vi elsker. Vi priser ikke det liv, vi har f\u00e5et for at kunne elske det.
